Tinnitus is one of the most common ear-related disorders, affecting millions, and successful treatments for the condition have been hard to come by. A recent study published in BMC Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders and conducted at sites in Germany and Atlanta, GA shows promising results for the use of a drug called Neramexane for the treatment of tinnitus. The study looked at 431 subjects with tinnitus rated as moderate to severe. Significant improvement in tinnitus was found in the treatment groups (two different dosages) compared to a control group taking a placebo. Neramexane is part of a class of anesthetics called NMDA receptor antagonists. For a link to an abstract of the article, click here: http://www.biomedcentral.com/1472-6815/11/1/abstract
